James Earl Ownby, 76, of New Market, passed away Thursday, October 22, at his home after a lingering illness.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by parents, James M. and Mollie Ownby; brothers, Ellis, Elmer and Arvin Ownby; and sisters, Lillie Brannam, Margaret McMahan, and Lucille and Gona Ownby.
Survived by wife, Reba Ownby; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Sylvia Ownby; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and George Shelton, Mollie and Dennis Williams, and Gail and Allen Cutshaw; grandsons, Jeff Shelton, Wade and Lucas Williams, and Kyle Cutshaw; sisters, Edith Carver, Newport, and Dorothy Combs, Ohio; brother, Gene Ownby, Newport; special uncle, Arvin Ownby, Knoxville; special cousins, Don, Jimmy, Hugh and Rex Ownby; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Creed and Marge Black of Washington; brother-in-law, Hubert Black of Newport; sisters-in-law, Jane Black, California, Reva Ownby of Cosby, and Ann Ownby of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday at Fielden Chapel with Revs. Millard Johnson and David Cross officiating. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery.
Music for the service by Evelyn Pratt.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
The family received friends Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fielden Funeral Home, New Market.
