(April 21, 1938 - September 14, 2010) Mary Edna Valentine, age 72, of Cosby, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at her home. She was of the Baptist faith, and was a former employee of Detroit Gasket for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willberry and Ollie Valentine; brothers, Kyle Valentine and J. L. Valentine. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Cates and her husband Jeff of Newport; brother Newell Valentine and wife Charlotte of Newport; sisters, JoAnn Stuart and husband Lester of Newport, Eleanor Jenkins and husband Cotton of Cosby, Vearl Valentine of Gatlinburg and Geraldine Valentine of Cosby; grandson, Jordan Cates of Newport; special friend, Joyce Welch; special nieces Angie Powers, Cheryl Gibson, Lisa McMahan, Chell Gibson; special nephews, Barry Valentine and Stevie Jenkins; several other nieces and nephews; and a host of other special family and friends. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Thursday, September 16, 2010 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Leon Large and Rev. Scott Gorrell officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am Friday, September 17, 2010 in Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Powers, Barry Valentine, Stevie Jenkins, Jeremiah McGaha, Jason Lewis and Kip Smith. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
