TOMPKINS, JAMES EUGENE "GENE" - age 71 of Evans Lane, Dandridge passed away Tuesday evening, June 6, 2000 at the Jefferson Co. Nursing Home. Son of the late Jimmy and Minnie B. Hash Tompkins. He was a loving husband and father and will be sadly missed by his family. Gene attended the Grant's Chapel United Methodist Church and was for many years a loyal employee of the Magnavox Co. having retired after 30 years of service. Survivors: wife, Maxine McSpadden Tompkins of Dandridge; daughter, Betty Holt of Oneida, Tenn.; daughter & son-in-law, Sherry and Chuck Patterson of Strawberry Plains; grandchildren, Melinda and husband Mat Brooks of Morristown, Jessica Holt of Johnson City, Tenn., Chris Patterson of Strawberry Plains. Funeral services, Thursday 8:00 p.m. at Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Steve Burkhart officiating. Interment graveside services, Friday 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family suggest that memorials be made to the American Lung Asso. of Tennessee, 212 So. Peters Rd. Suite 106, Knoxville, Tenn. 37923.
