CANTON - Marion Yoder Clark, 82, of 1054 Scruggs Road, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County, he had lived in Canton most of his life. He was a son of the late M.H. and Ellie Duckett Clark. He had retired from Champion International in 1979 with 38 years of service. He was a member of Plains United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the choir and on the board of trustees. He had also served his church in many other capacities.
He was a member and past president of the Canton Civitan Club. He was a founding member and past president of the North Hominy Community Center and he was a very active member of his community, having been selected as "Man of the Year" by the Western North Carolina Community Development Awards on two occasions. Mr. Clark was a strong supporter of the Pisgah athletic teams and vocational programs. He was also an active member of the Haywood County Trail Riders Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Panama prior to World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Loretta Crawford Clark a daughter and son-in-law, Nancie and Al Mehaffey of Lake Junaluska a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Clara Rikard Clark of Dalton, Ga. grandchildren, Kim Williams Lopour of Asheville, G. Sgt. Clark Robert Williams of Randolph, Vt., M. Michael Clark II of Dalton, Ga., and W. Jason Clark of Columbia, Md. a stepgrandson, Vince Mehaffey of Arden a sister, Martha Riede of Bullhead City, Ariz. a half-sister, Helen Cutshaw of Florida a half-brother, Arlin Clark of Canton great-grandchildren, Zachary and Dylan Williams, Austin Lawrence Clark and Gabrielle Williams and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Revs. Nathan Elliott, Al Mehaffey and Gerald Collins officiating. Burial will be in Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
Pallbearers will be Michael and Jason Clark, Clark Williams, Terry Swaim, Jim Mann and Eugene Yates.
