PROFFITT, HARWELL WEBB - age 82 of Alcoa, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at his home. Survivors include: wife, Sara R. Proffitt; children of Harwell and Florence Ortman Proffitt, Fred Ortman Proffitt and Ruth Marie Lightner and husband, Bobby; grandchildren, Christopher Borden and David Lightner; brother, John "Jack" Woodfin Proffitt; sister, Mary Lillian Proffitt Lyle; 13 step children including spouses; 6 step grandchildren; one step great granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. Emily Anderson, Dr. Kevin Frederick and Dr. G. Kenneth Gates officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Interment service prior to the memorial service will be for family members only. Memorials may be made to New providence Presbyterian Church, 703 W. Broadway, Maryville, Tenn. 37801 or the Maryville College, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, Tenn. 37804. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Maryville in charge of arrangements.
