WARE - Joseph J. Barbiasz , 92, of 194 North St., died yesterday at home.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Ruth (Mulvany) Barbiasz ; two daughters, Jane Barbiasz of West Roxbury and Mary Ellen Barbiasz of Linclon; two sisters, Mary Kos of Grafton and Rose Barbiasz of Ware; a granddaughter; nephews and nieces. He was born in Ware, son of John and Cecile (Sobariaj) Barbiasz . He graduated from Ware High School and Wentworth Institute of Boston.
He owned and operated Phoenix Furniture, Phoenix Restaurant and Ware Real Estate Exchange for many years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of All Saints Church, where he was a fund-raiser and collector for many years, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of Ware Council 183, Knights of Columbus; a fourth degree member, Knights of Columbus, Archbishop Williams Assembly, Springfield; the Rotary Club; and Golden Agers. He was also a long-time auctioneer and scout master.
The funeral will be held Thursday from Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church. Burial will be in the new St. William Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Golden Agers will meet 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
