WARE - Mathew W. Barbiasz, 70, of 23 Dunham Ave., an engineer, died yesterday at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 38 years, Alice (Ogle) Barbiasz; three sons, Michael Barbiasz of Ware, Christopher Barbiasz of Rye, N.H. and Timothy Barbiasz of Saratoga, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph Barbiasz of Ware; two sisters, Rose Barbiasz of Ware and Mary Kos of Grafton; and six grandchildren. He was born in Ware, son of Jan and Cecilia (Sobieraj) Barbiasz. He graduated from Ware High School and the Philadelphia (Pa.) School of Textile and Science. Mr. Barbiasz was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Europe and Asia.
He was an engineer at Tubular Textile Machine Corp. in Lexington, N.C. for 34 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Barbiasz was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
The funeral will be held Monday from Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, South Street. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Hampshire County, Box 748; or to St. Mary's School Fund, South and Charles streets, both Ware, 01082.
