JOHNSON CITY—Robert T. Dennis, 200 Dogwood Lane, Johnson City, died Monday, April 30, 2001, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Newport, Tennessee, and a son of the late Lemuel and Gypsy Iona Taylor Dennis.
Mr. Dennis was a WWII veteran, having served in the Navy.
He began his career in the restaurant business in Newport. He owned the Coffee Pot Restaurant there, and later, the Peggy Ann Restaurant in Kingsport and the Beverly Court Hotel/Restaurant in Johnson City.
Mr. Dennis was the co-owner of several businesses: TPI Corporation, Johnson City, Tennessee, manufacturers of electrical heating and air ventilation products; Fostoria Industries, Inc., Fostoria, Ohio, manufacturer of Infra Red heating products; a partner in D & H Realty; and the owner of North Side Package Store.
He is survived by his wife, Alene A. Dennis; his daughter, Tanya Dennis, Nashville; step-son, Louise Keene, Virginia; one sister, Mary Gorman, Nashville; one nephew, Ronnie Bullard, Newport; four nieces, Rhonda Moore, Lebanon, Jackie Gorman, Nashville, Betty Ann Bewley, Greeneville, and Jean Bullard, Atlanta.
A Committal Service for family and very close friends of Robert T. Dennis, will be conducted 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the Monte Vista Mausoleum. Rev. Kenneth T. Long and Rev. Wayne Absher will officiate. Active pallbearers will be John Squibb, John Love, Sr., John Reed, Orbin McClellan, Curtis McGee, Carl Childers, B.J. Church, and Bill Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be James H. Quillen, R.E. Henry, Sr., R.E. Henry, Jr., J.R. Thompson, Sam Miller, the employees of TPI Corporation, John Curtis, Jim Wilson, C.A. Johnson, Dick Moss, Joe Thomas, Walt Tittle, Vernon Wilson, Bob Sampson, Paul Pack, Wayne Graybeal, Senator Rusty Crowe, and Rep. Ralph Cole.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haven of Mercy, 123 W. Millard St., Johnson City, TN 37604 or the St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004.
Friends may come by the funeral home any time after 11 a.m. Tuesday, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Tuesday.
