CLIFTON, ROBERT E., SR. - of Strawberry Plains, passed away on Saturday July 4, 2009 at his home in the arms of his son Christopher with his wife of 53 years at his side. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Harve and Estelle Clifton and his brothers: Arthur, Leroy, and Virgil. He is survived by: wife Joann Vaughn Clifton; daughter Sharon and husband Julian Shibley of Raleigh NC; sons: Robert, Jr. of Knoxville, Christopher of Strawberry Plains, Joey Dean of Halls; granddaughter Angela and husband Richard Herzog of Halls; grandsons: Tyler Clifton of Murfreesboro, Anthony Beets of Halls, Papaw's little man Ryan Christopher of Halls; very special great-granddaughter Mia Angelina Herzog of Halls. The family would like to express their appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for all their loving care. The family will received friends on Monday from 6-8 PM at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home. Graveside services will be on Tuesday at 12:00 PM at Pollard's Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be: Arthur Clifton, Jackie Clifton, RV Clifton, Aaron Clifton, Jason Clifton and Tyler Clifton. McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 637-7955
