July 7, 1923-June 12, 2014
Glen B. Gunter was born in Waynesville, North Carolina on July 7, 1923. He was the son of the late George W. Gunter and the late Mary Emeline ( McGaha ) Gunter . Glen honorably served his country in WWII in the United States Army as a private first class, where he received a Purple Heart.
Glen was a wonderful man who was loved by everyone. He married the love of his life, Inis Veldia Smith, on August 10, 1946. From this union the couple would have three children. Glen supported his family working for the Union Camp Paper Company for more than forty years and was proud to serve as President of the Local United Paper Workers Union.
Glen received his spiritual nourishment from the Mountain Assembly Church of God in Monroe, where he served as a Sunday school teacher. Glen appreciated nature and the great outdoors. Every summer before school began Glen took the boys from his Sunday school class on a camping trip; he continued to do this for more than thirty years. Glen also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
As an avid football fan, Glen looked forward to fall to watch his two favorite teams, University of Michigan and Detroit Lions, tough it out against the competition.
Glen B. Gunter , age 90, of Monroe, Michigan passed away quietly at the Lutheran home on Thursday, June 12, 2014. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by his five sisters and five brothers.
To cherish his memory, Glen leaves his beloved wife, Inis V. Smith; three children, Glen "Skip" Gunter Jr. (Nancy) of South Dakota, George "Lucky" ( Mary Jean) Gunter of Monroe, Sheryl (David) Geiman of Monroe; one sister, Roxie McCarson; seven grandchildren, Emily (Lance) Randolph, Andrew (Rebecca) Gunter , Lucky Michael (Jennifer) Gunter , Matthew (Sarah) Gunter , Justin (Chanel) Taylor, Joshua (Angela) Taylor, and Lindsay Taylor; and eleven great- grandchildren.
