U.S. Veteran George J. Gunter, age 88, of Newport, passed away, Thursday, May 14, 2009 at his home. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Polly Gunter; brothers, Bill, John and Sam Gunter; sisters, Rosette O’Neal, Carrie Owens, Alice Gentry and Sarah Watts. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Gunter, Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Clyde J. and Annie Gunter, Horn Lake, Mississippi; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Ann and Lewis Joel Williams, Northport, Florida; brother, Glen Gunter, Monroe, MI; sister, Roxie Davis, Brevard, NC; grandchildren, Natalie Marie Gunter, Joana Rose Gunter, Lewis Joel Williams, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Andrew Tyler Williams and Lucas Joel Williams; also other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Friday, May 15, 2009 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ellis Necessary officiating. Burial will be 2:00 pm, Saturday May 16, 2009 in Union Cemetery, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Friday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
