JOHNSON, CHARLES WALKER "PADDLE" - age 84, of Maryville, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Maryville First Baptist Church. He was a 60 year member of the Maryville Kiwanis Club with 48 years of perfect attendance, a member of New Providence Lodge #128, attended UT and lettered in freshman football, a graduate of the University of Wyoming, where he was a member and president of Sigma Chi fraternity, was the retired owner of J&K Super Store, former stockholder and principal owner of radio station WMDR, a member and former president of the Clark's Grove Cemetery Association and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by: his parents, Walker and Gussie Lee Kidd Johnson; and sisters, Ruby Lee Wetzler and Sara Lou Pryor. Survivors include: wife, LaRue A. Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Walker and Denise Johnson of Rockford; sisters, Helen Atchley of Maryville; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and William T. Cate of Maryville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home Chapel with Oliver Smith Thomas officiating. The interment will follow in Clark's Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home, Maryville.
