NORTON, JAMES O. (JIM HAMMER) - age 85 of Mascot passed away Friday October 7, 2005 at Cove Lake State Park. He was a member and deacon of Mascot Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge #739. Retired from Asarco and was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Air Force. Preceded in death by: parents: John and Nancy Norton brother, Wallace (Bo) Norton and sisters, Johnnie Pilant and Blanche Foster. Survivors: wife of 63 years: Polly Norton daughter: Nancy Atkins of Knoxville, daughter and son-in-law: Brenda and Walter Hughes of Corryton grandchildren: Kim and husband Bob Trentham, Jennifer and husband Roger Ogle, Chuck Atkins, Candy and husband Jeff Acuff, Connie and husband Dale Hurst, Jim Walters and Bill and wife: Susanna Walters several great grandchildren sister: Jackie and husband Raymond White of Cookeville several nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. Family and friends will meet 11 am Monday at Roseberry Cemetery for interment service at 12 noon. Military honors provided by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Bob and Heath Trentham, Roger Ogle, Jeff Acuff, Dale and Nathan Hurst and Charlie Nelson. Honorary pallbearers: Cove Lake State Park Rangers and friends. In lieu of flowers contributions to be made to Mascot Baptist Church Building Fund 1800 #2 Dr. Mascot, TN., 37806. Family will receive friends 2 to 4 pm Sunday at Mascot Baptist Church.
