ARCHER, ODRA R. - 82 of Knoxville, passed away at home Friday morning, April 3, 2009. Born November 3, 1926 in Maynardville, TN. Member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church for 55 years and served as usher until 2001. Founder of Archer Air Conditioning Service Co., Inc. in 1962, retiring in 1997. Member of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) professional associations. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Bright Hope Lodge in Fountain City, and of Scottish Rite Temple. Preceded in death by his parents, Eskar Archer and Lillie Archer; sisters, Vada Butler, Mava Helms; and brother, Judson Archer. Survived by wife of 60 years, Hilda Smith Archer; daughters, Darlene (Barry) Bolding, Sharon Turpin, Rhonda (Mark) Ward; son, Dwayne (Amy) Archer; brother, Edward Archer; sisters, Mary Ruth Cox and Barbara Turner; nine (9) grandchildren, Dawn Walsh, Whitney Bradbury, Cassie Polzin (Platteville, WI), Brandon Bolding, Lydia Turpin, Hailey Ward, Blake Ward, Madison Archer, and Riley Archer of Knoxville; ten (10) great grandchildren. Our deepest gratitude goes to his caregiver of 6 years, Byron Whiteside, Comfort Keepers, and St. Mary's Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Archer's name may be made to the Wallace Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 Merchants Road, Knoxville 37912. Family and friends will meet at Stevens Mortuary 10:15 a.m. Monday, April 6 and go in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. entombment service. Rev. Kent Williams officiating. Honorary pallbearers: members of Walter Maples' Sunday School Class at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral service 3:00 p.m. Sunday in Stevens Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Kent Williams officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at N. Broadway.
