Mr. Russell M. Fodness, 89, of Cosby and Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at his home in Cosby.
He was a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Fodness served in World War II as a Captain of Army Intelligence over German Prisoners of War.
He was 20-year veteran of the Board of Directors at Sun Banks in Florida; Member of the Trust Committee at Sun Banks; President of the Port Charlotte, Florida Rotary Club; Ruling Elder and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte; National Top Producing Agent for State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance; Lifetime Member of the President’s Club for State Farm Insurance; and a private pilot.
He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 67 years, Mary Jane Fodness, who survives him.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dan Bright, of Cosby; son, Thomas Fodness, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Shirley Fodness, of Cosby; grandchildren, Brett Busbee, of Eagleville, Tenn.; John Busbee, of Dacula, Ga.; Camille Collins, of Nashville, Tenn.; Sarah Parker, of Knoxville, Tenn.; Matthew Fodness, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; Marie Chandler, Brandon Denton, and Cheryl Denton, all of Cosby; great-grandchildren, Lena Busbee, Megan Busbee, Hannah Busbee, and Danelia Busbee.
Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Loftis officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2009, at Mountain Home National Cemetery for the 2:00 p.m. interment. Military Honors will be provided by the East Tennessee Honor Guard.
Family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
