Trula Costner enters race for Trustee Trula Costner has announced her candidacy for Cocke County Trustee in the May 4 Republican Primary. She was born in Cocke County and has always lived here. Her parents were the late Charles and Dorothy Cureton. She has two brothers, Charles Cureton, who works for the National Park Service and Randy Cureton, a teacher at Edgemont Elementary School. Her husband is Bill Costner, an employee at Newport Utilities. The Costners have one daughter, Wendy Reed, an associate at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County in the Imaging Department. Their two grandchildren are Casey and Kaylee Reed. Casey is a student at Walters State Community College, and Kaylee attends Cocke County High School. Costner said, "The Trustee has many duties. The first is to collect property taxes. Other responsibilities include paying all warrants as directed by law, investing funds to earn the highest return possible, accepting county funds, and keeping records of all mentioned transactions. Because I have 13 years experience in savings and loan banking, I am highly qualified for this job. "A Trustee must have complete understanding of the tax bill and assessment of personal, residential, and business property. Because I have worked twelve years in the Property Assessor and Trustee's offices, I have hands-on experience for the daily operations of the Trustee's office. The Trustee needs experience in the court system to deal with delinquent taxes. I recently retired from Sessions Court after eight years of service; this is an important asset for the next Trustee.
