Veldia Shipman Pressley Biddix, age 86, died Monday, March 14, 2005 at the Brian Center in Waynesville.
She was a native of Haywood County and had resided in Buncombe County for the past 32 years. She was the daughter of the late, Mark L. and Julie Pressley Shipman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennis V. Pressley who died in 1971 and a son, Hubert A. Pressley who died February 22, 2005. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Venson, Vanis and Ora Shipman; two sisters, Minnie Hyde and Lydia Rogers and two half sisters, Viola Wilson and Bertie Bolin.
She was a former employee of American Enka and was also a seamstress for Bon Marché and John Carroll. She was a member of West Asheville Church of God and of the Baptist faith. Throughout her life, she enjoyed the role of being a caregiver.
In addition to her husband of 32 years, Frank Y. Biddix, she is survived by a daughter, Edie P. Dixon and her husband, Jim of Concord, NC; a son, Delmer D. Pressley and his wife, Barbara of Canton; a daughter-in-law, Julie Pressley of Glendale, AZ; a step-daughter, Jean Thomasson and her husband, Larry of Belmont; two stepsons, Carroll Biddix and his wife, Margaret of Fairview and Earl Biddix and his wife, Erma Jean of TN; a brother, Arthur Shipman of Canton; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; three step great-granddaughters and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. In conjunction with Mrs. Biddix’s service, a memorial service will also be held for her son who died February 22, 2005 in Arizona. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the residence of her son, Delmer Pressley, 195 Center Pigeon Road, Canton. Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Support Group of Asheville, P. O.
