Robert E. Pack, Sr. August 14, 1936 - September 4, 2014 Robert E. Pack, Sr., age 78, of Newport, died suddenly Thursday evening September 4, 2014 of medical complications after a long illness in a Knoxville hospital. He had fallen just after midnight and sustained a hip fracture. He is survived by his Wife of 58 years, Martha L. Evans Pack; Daughter, Robin Pack Conway and her husband, Thomas W. Conway, MD; Son, Robert E. Pack, Jr. and wife, Susan Ball Pack; Robert and Susan’s Children, Marine Sgt. Evan R. Pack and Kaitlyn N. Pack. Brothers, Carl Pack and Everette Pack; Sister, Carolyn Pack Peters. He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde D. Pack and Mildred Bear Pack. He graduated from Cocke County High School Class of 1954 and enjoyed the annual class reunions. He attended the University of Tennessee. He was a mechanical engineer working at Wall Tube Metal Products of Newport and MECO Corporation of Greeneville. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball for his son’s teams and refereeing basketball. When his children were in high school, he was active in the Cocke County Band Boosters Club serving as treasurer. He was a lifelong Atlanta Braves Baseball Fan. Robert was an active charter member of Memorial Baptist Church in Newport. He served on the building committee, helping with the design of the new church building under construction and looking forward to its completion. He was a beloved family man, church member, friend to many, and will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Robert Pack to: Memorial Baptist Church, Attention: Building Fund, P.O. Box 1132, Newport, TN 37822-1132. Funeral services 6 pm Sunday September 7, 2014 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends from 4-6 on Sunday prior to the funeral services. Burial will be held 11 am Monday September 8, 2014 in Union Cemetery. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
