At least one killed in wreck By GAIL CRUTCHFIELD gcrutchfield@themountainpress.com A Knoxville man was killed and another critically injured Saturday morning in a head-on collision on Chapman Highway, and a Sevierville man was injured and could face charges in the incident. Tennessee State Trooper Michael Turley said 42-year-old Dylan Melas was killed in the 9:50 a.m. accident near Shiloh Church Road. Another Knoxville man, 18-year-old Kyle Tant, suffered what Turley described as life-threatening injuries. Byron Inman, 22, of Sevierville, was also injured in the wreck. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Turley said. Turley said Inman was driving a green 1993 Z71 Chevrolet truck north on Chapman Highway, heading toward Seymour. "According to witness statements, the green Chevy was traveling pretty fast, and while he was negotiating a curve he swerved across the double yellow line into the path of (the Melas) vehicle and struck head on," Turley said. Melas was driving a blue 1967 Chevrolet truck south on Chapman Highway. Tant was a passenger in his vehicle. None of the individuals involved were wearing seat belts, Turley said, noting the older truck would have had only lap belts. Chapman Highway was blocked for more than two hours as the accident was being cleared up. Turley said the accident is still under investigation, but expects charges will be pending.
