A Louisville man died after suffering severe burns in an apparent freak accident at his home.
Arthur “Arlo” Rufus Holley, 52, died Monday during surgery at Vanderbilt Burn Center in Nashville.
He was alone at his home on Old Lowe’s Ferry Road on Saturday when the accident occurred.
Reginald McCullough, deputy with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the incident, according to a police report released Thursday.
“Upon arrival, contact was made with Arthur Holley, who advised he was trying to light a fire and caught himself on fire,” McCullough said in the report. “Mr. Holley advised in order to try and put the fire that was on him out, he ran and jumped in the lake.”
McCullough also said in the report that Holley had burns all over his body and had an odor of gasoline on him.
