Derotha Yearout Garner, age 88, of Maryville, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law where she had lived the last few months with her devoted husband of 67 years, Ray. She graduated from Everett High School in 1944 and worked briefly at Alcoa Aluminum Plant. In 1946, she married her childhood sweetheart and they embarked on their life together in the US Army. In 1981, they returned home to Maryville, where she worked for Citizens Bank of Blount County until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell and Retta Holder Yearout; brothers, Raymond, James, and William Yearout; and sister, Delsa Brown. She is survived by her husband, Ray Garner; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Harp; grandsons, Larry Ray Warren and Mitch and Matt Harp; brother, Herbert Yearout; sisters, Betty Merriman and Polly Yearout; sisters-in-law, Dortha and Lois Yearout; and many nieces and nephews. We also want to thank BMH Hospice; especially the nurses, bath aids, social worker, and Chaplain, who so ably assisted us through this last journey. Family and friends will gather 12:00 PM Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Forest Hill Cemetery for the graveside service and interment, Rev. Charles Murrell and Steve Poplin officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice or to BMH Hospice (1095 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804) or the Alzheimer’s Tennessee (2270 Sutherland Ave., Suite 202, Knoxville, TN 37919). The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville, (865) 982-6041, www.millerfuneralhome.org.

Garners celebrate 63rd anniversary
Raymond and Derotha (Yearout) Garner, of Maryville, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary Jan. 23.
The couple were married Jan. 23, 1946, in Blount County.
Their family includes daughter and son-in-law Judy and John Harp and three grandsons, Mitch Harp, Matt Harp and Larry Warren.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Garner are retired.

Garners to observe 65 years of marriage Sunday
Raymond and Derotha (Yearout) Garner, of Maryville, will observe their 65th wedding anniversary Sunday. No formal celebration is planned but cards would be appreciated.
The couple were married Jan. 23, 1946, in Blount County.
Their family includes daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Harp, of Maryville. They have three grandsons, Mitchell and Matthew, of Maryville, and Larry Ray Warren, of Wears Valley.
Mr. Garner served with the United States Army, Civil Service, McGhee Tyson Airport, state of Tennessee and Blount County Sheriff’s Office. Mrs. Garner was employed at Citizens Bank until her health declined.
Mrs. Garner is a member of and attended Six Mile Missionary Baptist Church.
