- [S142] Newspaper Article, The Oak Ridger (TN), 22 Aug 2002.
Earl Lee Price, 75, of Knoxville, died Monday morning, Aug. 19, 2002, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville of cancer.
He was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School's inaugural graduating class of 1944, and a graduate of Carson-Newman College.
Mr. Price retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after 37 years of service as an employee at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. He began his employment at Y-12 when the plant was operated by Union Carbide Nuclear Division.
He served his community in many capacities, as a past PTA president, Toastmaster club president, Cub Scout leader, and youth baseball coach. Mr. Price also devoted much of his time to delivering food for FISH, a former social service agency operated out of Oak Ridge.
He was a longtime member of Bearden United Methodist Church in Knoxville and had served as a church usher for many years. He was also a member of the Welsh Society, the Smoky Mountain Mercedes Club and the Republican Executive Committee.
His family said he was known to friends and neighbors as someone they could always count on for help. He was a man who fully understood the power of love and never faced a challenge too great, they said, adding that his enthusiasm and sense of humor were an inspiration to his family and friends.
Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Emily Rose Frederick Price; his sons, Stephen Price and his wife, Mary H. Price, of Knoxville, and Stuart Price and his wife, Suzanne S. Price, of Dayton, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Jason, Clinton and Amanda, all of Knoxville, and Jacob and Julia, both of Dayton.
He is also survived by two brothers, Charles Price of Oak Ridge and Clyde Price and his wife, Ida, of Dandridge; his sisters, Gladys P. Forgety of Strawberry Plains, Blanche P. Doyle of Mechanicsville, Pa., and Pearl P. Dearing and her husband, E.C., of Romania; his mother-in-law, Minnie Lee Frederick of Oak Ridge; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives.
Mr. Price was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Ola Branam Price; and his sister, Ruth P. Corbitt.
The funeral was to be held at 11 this morning, Aug. 22, at Bearden United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Pollock, assisted by the Rev. Charles Frazier, officiating.
Family and friends were to meet at 2:45 this afternoon at Hillcrest Cemetery in Dandridge for a 3 p.m. graveside service, with members of the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard conducting full military rites.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund of Bearden United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 11065, Knoxville, TN 37939; or to the Salvation Army, 409 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917.
Rose Mortuary, Mann Heritage Chapel, Knoxville, is handling the arrangements.
