Wanda Lee Cutshaw Newman obituary
- [S106] The Mountain Press, 26 Feb 2015.
Jerry Lynn Newman, age 59, of Sevierville passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 28, 1955, to parents Donald “Bill” Newman and Wanda Newman. Although he, like many native Sevier Countians, grew up poor, he considered himself rich in family, friendships and the faith of a praying mother. A hard worker from an early age, Jerry began what would be a lifetime of service to others as a brother devoted to his four sisters. In 1989, he added devoted husband to the many hats he wore. But it was on his 35th birthday when he took on the role that would define the rest of his too short life – fatherhood – with birth of his baby girl and, three years later, his precious son. Jerry’s love for his children and his desire to raise them well led him to accept Christ as his Savior and to emulate Christ in his life. The fruits of his faith were clear in his generosity, his humility, his faithfulness and work ethic. Never much of a talker, Jerry spoke through his actions, sharing whatever he had to give, serving as a father figure to countless young people and selflessly giving of himself to friends, neighbors and strangers alike – even as cancer ravaged his body. Although he was taken from us far too soon, he leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and service here on earth and surely was greeted in Heaven with the words, “Well done, my child.”
Preceded in death by his mother, Jerry is survived by his father; his wife of 25 years, Jamie Newman; daughter and son, Megan Renee Newman and Jacob Elijah Newman; sisters, Judy Huskey, Carolyn Gann, Sandra Bales and Christy Chesteen; brothers-in-law, Larris Gann and Doug Bales; nieces, Lori Beth James, Ashley Hess (husband Ben Hess), Sarah Huskey (husband Andrew Huskey), Cassie and Kelsey Bales; nephews, Devin and Braylon VanTilburg, Troy Satterfield, Nathan VanEtten and Bryan Atchley (wife, Teresa); great-niece, Chelsey James; great-nephew, Bryar Scott; in-laws, Jeri and Clayton Sutton; relatives through marriage, Becky Satterfield, Buddy VanTilburg, Roger Satterfield, Anthony Sutton and Jeremy Sweeney; and special friends, Eddie “Bones” Shultz, David Cox and Maudiel Hernandez.??
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held Saturday, February 28, at 11:30 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 2539 Newport Highway, Sevierville, TN, 37876.
