He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Maynardville Hwy, a member of Painter's Local #437, Bright Hope Masonic Lodge #557 and Scottish Rite. Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his father, Vivian P. Johnson mother and step-father, Margaret H. and Bishop L. Johnson sister, Vivian Jewell brothers, Laymon H. and Josie R. Johnson and cousin, Gaines Ellis. He is survived by his wife, Peggy children, Maynard, Jr., Matthew and Mark of the home daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Rick Watson of New Market sons and daughter-in-law, Brian Johnson of Knoxville and Jason and Tina Johnson of New Tazewell grandchildren, Hannah Watson and Spencer Johnson brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Lucille Johnson and Doyle and Sue Johnson and Shirley Johnson Blanton sister, LaVerne Carey former wife, Opal Breeding Johnson all of Knoxville several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation Dr. Bruce Avery and staff, the staff of S. Mary's Hospice and the staff of Care Plus. Masonic Memorial service will be Friday 11 am with funeral services to follow at Mynatt Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Gary Vandergriff and Rev. Burney Hutchison officiating. Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery on Maynardville Hwy. Pallbearers will be Maynard Jr., Greg, Tony, and Michael Johnson, Jack Dishner and Frank Carey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Holbert, Conard Shults, Arthur McCoy, Charlie Rogers, and Steve Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home.
