CAREY, REV. WILLIAM THOMAS (W.T.) - age 71, of North Knoxville, went to be with Jesus, Thursday morning, January 25, 2001. He was born May 29, 1929, to Frank and Alice Phillips Carey. A Methodist Minister for 29 years, Rev. Carey served Marble City United Methodist Church, Petros Circuit, Zion, Bright Hope, Pleasant Hill, Kodak Circuit, Bethelem, and Piney Grove churches. He had also retired from Rust Engineering Co. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and Bright Hope Lodge #557 F&AM. In addition to his parents, Rev. Carey is preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vivian Palmer and Margaret Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, LaVerne Johnson Carey; daughter, Donna Helena Carey of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Jane Carey of Clinton; his precious granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Carey of Clinton; sister, June Maples; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Hugh Lett; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Sue Carey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gene and Lucille Johnson, Maynard and Peggy Johnson and Opal Johnson, all of Knoxville, Doyle and Sue Johnson, and Shirley Johnson, all of Halls, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers: Gene, Doyle, Maynard, Greg, and Tony Johnson, and Tony Evans. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
