Mrs. Dottie Clevenger, 68, of Newport, was called home to be with her Savior Sunday afternoon, November 23, 2008.
She was born on January 23, 1940, in Moorehaven, Florida. She spent the majority of her life in East Tennessee.
After many years of working as a teacher’s aide for Edgemont Elementary School, she became a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in education. She loved children and touched countless lives during her years of teaching. The staff at Edgemont meant so much to her and she enjoyed everyone that she worked with each day.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joe Clevenger; parents, Eunice and Bob Simmons; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Georgia Mae and Mark Clevenger; four brothers, Curtis, R.J., Franklin, and Charles Simmons.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie Sue, and future son-in-law, Arthur Styles, and two sisters-in-law, Betty Carbery and Dora Lee Simmons. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews, and a host of very special friends.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2008, at West End Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Mooty officiating.
Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday evening at West End Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation or books may be made to Edgemont Elementary School Library, 375 Carson Springs Road, Newport TN 37821.
