Gelena Hill Dockery, age 78, of Del Rio, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 9, 2008. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother; sister and friend. She is known for her sweet smile and her handmade embroidered items she gave to many. Her sense of humor was evident to the immediate family with the competition as which son-in-law was number one. She attended Piney Grove Baptist Church and 1st Church of God, in Del Rio and enjoyed gospel music. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patton Samuel and Lola Mae Holt Hill, of Hartford; brother, Joel David Hill, of Georgia; son-in-law, Billy Barnes; nephew, Jimmy Hill of Georgia; brother-in-law, Clyde Messer; and niece, Brenda Hill, of Alabama. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Luther Dockery, of Del Rio; five daughters, Helen Bailey and husband Rex, Mansfield, Ohio, Thelma Wilhem and husband Frank, of Newport, Charolette Fox and husband Don, of Del Rio, Linda Wood and husband Jake of Newport; and Valarie Dockery of Del Rio; grandchildren, LeeAnn (Chad) Swanger, of Del Rio, Gerald Fox, of Del Rio; great-granddaughter, Bethany Swanger, of Del Rio; her adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren, include Jason Wood , of Newport, Meagan (Tom) and Ariel Ingenthron of Sevierville, and Melissa (Sam) and Billy Regan, of Knoxville; sister, Corrina Messer, of Newport; sisters-in-law, Billie Jo Hill, of Georgia, Edith (Richard) Reece, of Del Rio; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Wednesday, November 12, 2008 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Murr and Rev. Bobby Morrison officiating. Burial will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, November 13, 2008 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
