KELLER, ELMER LEA - 78 of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his home. He was born June 15, 1928 in Alcoa. Mr. Keller graduated from Maryville College in 1951. He later did graduate work in chemistry and management at UT. He worked in Oak Ridge first at ORIONS Medical Division and worked there until 1956. During work as a research assistant there, he was responsible for preparing radioactively labeled medications for cancer patients and monitoring the patients for distribution and effect. In 1956, he joined the AEC, a predecessor agency of DOE. At the AEC, he rose to a division director involved in plant operations, research and development and operations analysis. During his work with the AEC and later DOE, Mr. Keller had a variety of management tasks, including managing the Feed Materials Processing Center at Fernald, Ohio and Ashtabela, Ohio. He also managed Boron-10 Separation Facilities at Model City, NY and Quapaw, OK. Mr. Keller also managed a nationwide program to recover Uranium from manufacturing scrap. This program was the formerly utilized sites Remedial Action Program (Fusrap). Later Mr. Keller managed the Materials Management Effort of ORO as well as Nuclear Materials Control and Classification. Mr. Keller held membership in several professional organizations, including American Chemical Society, American Nuclear Society and American Management Association. He was named a member of Who's Who in Federal Service in the 1980's. He received numerous performance awards and was named his agency's nominee for Outstanding Employee. He resigned from DOE in May of 1986. Mr. Keller was a long time member of the Robertsville Baptist Church, serving first as Music Director beginning in the 1950's and then as chairman of the deacons, chairman of the trustees, chairman of two building programs, Sunday School teacher and member of various committees. He was preceded in death by: his parents, William A. and Alma Berlin Messer Keller, Blount County natives. He was married to Wanda C. Keller from 1948 to 1993 and Helen C. Keller from 1994 to 1999, both preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth (Betty) DeLozier in 2001. Brothers: William C. and Clinton O. Keller, both of Alcoa and sister, Charlotte Snell of Charlotte, NC also preceded him in death. He is survived by: his wife three daughters: Karen K. Bush and husband, Phil of LaVergne, Janet K. Jordan and husband, Joel, of Franklin and Nancy K. Feist and husband, Rich, of Oak Ridge two step-children: Rhetta Fisher of Clinton and Tony Fisher and wife, Angie, of Chattanooga seven grandchildren: Janelle Adams of Franklin, and Anthony Brown and wife, Ginette, of San Antonio, TX, Jon Chaney of Murfreesboro, Karli Bush of LaVergne, Sarah Gardner and husband, Buddy, of Knoxville, Rachel Rankin and husband, Damien, and Bethany Crabtree and husband, Rush, of Oak Ridge and two step-grandchildren: Jade and Caina Fisher of Chattanooga six great-grandchildren: Jordan, Andrew and Christopher Adams of Franklin, Summer Clark and Rush Crabtree of Oak Ridge and Jaeden Bush of LaVergne brothers: Robert of East Greenville, PA, Donald of Allentown, PA, and Kenneth of Alcoa sisters: Jean Clifton and Joyce Holley of Montgomery, AL. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Robertsville Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Prince officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Robertsville Baptist Church, Moving Forward Fund, 251 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or Foundation Fighting Blindness, Retinis Pigmentosa Research.
