- [S142] Newspaper Article, Asbury Park Press (Neptune, NJ), 20 Nov 2007.
ELIZABETH ROBY BROWN of OCEAN GROVE was called to her heavenly home Wednesday, Nov. 14. She was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Parsippany and was the daughter of the late Rev. Ralph Russell Roby and Mary Spencer Roby. Elizabeth graduated from Centenary College for Women and Trenton State College with a degree in elementary education. Elizabeth taught kindergarten for 20 years for the Phillipsburg Board of Education. As a member of the Wesley Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, where Rev. Roby had served as the minister, Elizabeth was the superintendent of the Sunday school and a member of the United Methodist Women; she also participated in the Adult Fellowship. Elizabeth and her beloved husband of 61 years, Roland, retired to Ocean Grove in 1983. While living in Ocean Grove, the Browns were members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and participated in Adult Fellowship, delivered Meals on Wheels, hosted cottage prayer meetings and were very active with a group of wonderful Christian friends called the Primetimers. The Browns were active supporters of the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, with Roland as a loyal usher for 23 years, and Elizabeth a member of the Usher's Women's Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by a granddaughter, Miranda Elizabeth. Elizabeth will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Roland R. Brown; a devoted daughter, Shelley Brown Griffin; a son-in-law, Ron Griffin; her grandchildren, Brent and Kendall Griffin; her sisters, Mary Trotter of Knoxville, Tenn., Ellen Diehl of Lakewood, and Evangeline Sweitzer of Easton, Pa.; her brothers-in-law, Donald Sweitzer and Col. Raymond S. Brown of San Antonio, Texas; and 11 nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Beal, who provided wonderful care over the last 24 years.
