Ben Harmon Purkey, age 72 of Rockford, passed away Wednesday September 24, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Grace Memorial Church. Not only was he a loving husband and father he also had a big heart, he would help anyone he could. He would prefer to help someone before he would help himself. Preceded in death by parents, Thomas Owens and Ethel Purkey; son, Randy Lee Purkey; brother, Tommy Purkey, Elbert Purkey; sister, Barbara Lynn Bryant; nephew, Claudie McBrayer. Survived by wife, Dorothy (Phyllis) Purkey; daughters and son in law, Donna and Jed Delaune of VA, Nancy Martin of Maryville; grandsons, Mark Garner Jr., Jeremy Davis, Justin Purkey, Josh Martin, Jacob Purkey, Brandon Martin, Jonathan Delaune; great grandchildren, Gauge Garner, Lacy Martin; sisters, Imogene Kelley (Buddy), Madge McBrayer (Claude); special friends and family from Grace Memorial Church; and special friends, Elizabeth and Joe Cotner. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 pm Saturday September 27, 2008 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Ron Sunderland officiating. Interment service 2:00 pm Sunday at Zions Chapel Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville. www.millerfuneralhome.org
