RAINWATER, WARREN "DUDE" - on October 23, 2003, the Great Music Maker above call for him to join in His Glorious Choir. Dude was born on August 26, 1934 in Jefferson County, Tennessee to parents Gene Rainwater and Willie Mae Rainwater. At a very young age, his special Uncle Bud Licklighter nicknamed Warren "Dude" and the name stuck throughout his life. Dude had a special talent with his music. Dude performed his music by "pickin and singin" in numerous places. At one time, he was offered a recording contract in Nashville and just before he was to sign the contract, he suffered a heart attact that changed the direction of his life. Dude then settled down to dedicate his music to the Lord, presenting his talents at his home church of Lawson's Chapel United Methodist Church on Indian Creek Road. Dude was a multi-talented man, having served as the artist for his high school yearbook and he won a scholarship to play football at Florida State. However, he fell in love and married Rubye Mason in November. 1954. Rubye gave Dude four precious children, Rodney, Susan, Ricky and David. After 43 years of marriage, Rubye was called home to Heaven. Dude worked at the Peoples Barber Shop (Newoirt) for 25 years where many a joke and tall tales were exchanged. Jefferson County Highway Department and then served as a Jefferson County Highway Commissioner. In April, 1999, Dude was blessed with a second marriage to Marie Thomas of Dandridge and they had 4 ½ short years together. Dude is preceded in death by both parents and wife Rubye also by sisters Geraldine and Marjorie and brothers Arthur Chester and Jimmy. He is survived by wife Marie son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Wanda Rainwater granddaughter and husband Jessica and Jason Nease and great-grandchildren Brianna and Bryson Nease daughter Susan Rainwater Zimmerman and granddaughters Brandi and Ashley Zimmerman and former son-in-law Scott Zimmerman sons Ricky and David Rainwater step family includes daughter Kathy and husband Dickey Ridenour granddaughter and husband Amber and Scott Moser and great-granddaughter Olivia Moser daughter Debbie and husband Steve Morie grandson and wife John and Renee Morie sister, Hazel Murley special friends Ricky Ramsey and David Campbell. The family wishes to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff with the HOSPICE program with Superior Home Health Care, particularly Phyllis and Kathy-you were wonderful! Receiving of friends will be from 5 til 8 P. M. Saturday, October 25, 2003 at the Manes Funeral Home in Newport. Funeral and burial services will be 2 P. M. Sunday at the Lawson's Chapel United Methodist Church on Indian Creek Rd. Memorials may be made to the Lawson's Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Curt Mason, 332 Morie Rd. Dandridge, Tn. 37725.
