Fred L. Myers, Jr. Executive Committeeman
Newport Attorney, Fred L. Myers, Jr. is seeking re-election to the state-level post of Republican Executive Committeeman for the state's first district.
Myers has been his district GOP committeeman for 22 years.
If elected, Myers pledges "to continue to efficiently represent the first senatorial district (Cocke, Hamblen, Greene, and Unicoi counties) in all matters which concern them in the Tennessee Republican Party."
Myers has been married to the former Norma Jean Cureton for 42 years and they have a daughter-Janice Sue Myers Raines, of Newport. He is the son of the late Dossie H. Myers and Fred L. Myers, Sr.
Myers graduated from Cocke County High School in 1954 and received his law degree from the University of Tennessee in 1961. He was admitted to the bar in 1962 and was licensed to practice before US courts of appeals in 1974.
Myers was honorably discharged from the United States Army and rose to the rank of captain in the Tennessee National Guard.
Myers served as a Tennessee state senator in 1974.
Locally, Myers has been a member of the Newport/Cocke County Chamber of Commerce, Newport Rescue Squad Board of Directors, chairman of the Cocke County Regional Planning Commission, president of the Cocke County Bar Association, and has served as county attorney.
He attends First Baptist Church and is a member of Am-Vets, the American Legion, the National Rifleman Association, and various other sporting clubs.
This is a non paying position, and since his first election Myers has financed all of his transportation, fuel, food, lodging, and days away from work. He does this because of his dedication to the Republican Party.

Judge Myers sworn in as Parrottsville judge

PARROTTSVILLE-With a little bit of pomp and circumstance,Attorney Fred Myers Jr. was sworn in as Parrottsville's new city judge at theconclusion of the monthly meeting of the Parrottsville City Council on Thursdayevening, July 7.
Judge Ben Hooper swore Myers in as judge, whichParrottsville's charter apparently allows.
Because of Parrottsville's small population of just over 300people, Judge Myers is expected to hold court for only one day each month.
Parrottsville Mayor Mary Keller said a grant that will payfor the salary of a police officer for the town requires that the town firsthave a functioning judge in place.
Judge Myers has agreed to hold court on a volunteer basis.

Newport lawyer named senior counselor
NASHVILLE-Newport lawyer Fred L. Myers Jr. with Myers & Ball LLP has been named a Senior Counselor of the Tennessee Bar Association. Myers was awarded the designation at the TBA's annual convention held recently in Chattanooga.
Senior counselors are those Tennessee Bar Association members who, during the coming membership year, will reach 75 years of age or complete 50 years of practice. They are honored for their service to the profession.
