SUMNER , RICHARD LAFAYETTE " DICKIE " - 58, of Newport passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2000 at his residence. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and had worked for several years for Southern Railroad. Mr. Sumner was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ida Eloise Day Sumner ; sister, Betty Witt. Dickie is survived by his children and their spouses Ricky Sumner of Newport, Sabrina Crum and husband, Billy Joe of Statesville, NC, April Mullins and husband, Jay of Parrottsville, Tenn.,Calvin Sumner of Morgan County, Tenn.; grandchildren, Samantha and Jake Crum, Brandon and Ben Mantooth, Jessica and Travis Mullins, Stephen Shoemaker, Brad Smith; daughter of Calvin Sumner ; sisters, Faye Freshour, Donna Pressley, Sharon Gray, Mary Green, Carolyn Ramsey all of Newport; brothers, Calvin and Jim Sumner both of Newport; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jim Chesteen and Clayton Ownby. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday September 11 at Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Earl Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Sunday September 10, 2000 at Brown Funeral Home. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
