Springfield - George Benjamin Usher, Sr., 80, died Friday, September 29, 2006, at Effingham Hospital.
The Screven County native and lifelong resident of Springfield was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and received the Gartland Award from the Catholic Church.
He retired from Union Camp after 33 years and the A.S.C.S. office after 50 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Baham, was a member of the American Legion Post #209, and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas William Usher and Katie Arnsdorff Usher, and his daughter, Rose Ann Yarbrough.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rose Mary Kenny Usher; two daughters, Judith U. Sheahan and Mary Jane Heyman (Julian); three sons, George B. Usher, Jr., John Kenny Usher (Diana) all of Springfield, and Timothy Daniel Usher (Holly) of Clyo; 12 grandchildren, James T. Sheahan, III, John Michael Sheahan, Rose Marie Sheahan, Joseph T. Sheahan, Christopher S. Sheahan, Luke Ryan Usher, Gabrielle Rachel Usher, Lauren Rebekah Usher, Hillary Sarah Usher, Cara Elaine Usher, Sophie Danielle Usher, and Sarah Kate Heyman; two sisters, Gaisy Hodges of Springfield and Irma Hammond of Columbus, OH; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. in the chapel.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
