Juanita Davis, age 82, of Walland, and formerly of Maryville, passed away Sunday, June 06, 2010 after a long illness. She and her husband, Jack H. Davis, were long time contractors that served Blount County, with Blount Plumbing and Heating Co. from the late 1940’s. Mrs. Davis was the first woman in the state of Tennessee to receive her General Contractor’s license, and also the oldest lady to hold her General Contractor’s license. After retirement, she and her husband, Jack, developed Saddle Ridge, a 1500 acre mountain property in Walland. Mrs. Davis was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Davis; parents, Arthur and Zella Kirby; sisters, Mary Ruth Long and Violet Brown; and brother, Bill Kirby. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Davis of Maryville and Becky Davis Sledge, granddaughter, Ashley McNish; great-granddaughter, Kendra McNish; sister, Rowena Long; brother, Wilford Kirby; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 401 W. Summit Hill Dr. Knoxville, TN 37902. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Miller Funeral Home, Magnolia Chapel, with Rev. Greg Long officiating.
