Blount businessman Mack Rusell dies Blount County businessman Mack E. Russell died at home Tuesday at age 74 after a 15-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Union County, his grandparents, parents and other family members relocated the family farm to Blount County for the construction of Norris Dam. A large portion of the family farm is now occupied by Blount County Industrial Park. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Since 1990, he served as a clinical trial patient in research for new medications to fight Alzheimer's disease in association with the Mayo Hospital at Jacksonville Beach, Fla. He established several construction-related corporations in the Chattanooga and Knoxville areas. Two of his Blount County businesses, Blount steel Supply Inc. and Commercial Heating and Air Inc., were involved in construction of local landmarks including additions to the Blount County Courthouse, Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville College campus and area churches and schools. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Russell ; sons, Richard L. Russell , Greg Russell and John Russell ; daughter, Shari Coulter; sister Etta Jean Hurst; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
