ROBERT JOSEPH GRIGGS, 66, of Ashley, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, after a short illness. Born Feb. 28, 1940, in Dunkirk, he lived near Ashley for 40 years. After graduation from Riverdale High School, he joined the United States Navy and traveled to Bermuda, the Mediterranean Sea, Italy, Saudi Arabia, the Alps, and India. He played and coached softball, in Auburn and Butler, and he enjoyed elk and deer hunting, in Colorado. Surviving are his wife, Karen; two daughters, Jennifer Griggs of Angola and Pamela (David) Van Zuilen; five grandsons; one granddaughter; brothers, William (Peg) Griggs of Auburn, Warren Boyce (Lucy) Griggs of St. Joe, Aubrey Wedzel (Sandy) Griggs of Leo, Kevin (Jan) Griggs of Harlan and David (Pamela) Griggs of Auburn; and sisters, Fletta (Gene) Zerns of Auburn, Katie (Charles) Laux of St. Joe, Veda Sue (William) Mauller of Leo, Judy Ann (Martin) Anspaugh of St. Joe and Vicki Jean (Reuben) Miller of Grabill. He was preceded in death by his eldest sister, Lois Stauffer; youngest brother, Kerry Layne; and parents, Margeurite Griggs and Aubrey Griggs. A Memorial service is Saturday, July 15, 2006 at home. No calling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Acres Land Trust, 2000 N. Wells St., Fort Wayne, IN 46808 for nature preserve acquisition. Arrangements by Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo.
