Maryville man kllled in two-vehicle crash
By Wes Wade | (wes.wade@thedailytimes.com)
A Maryville man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on East Lamar Alexander Parkway.
Harold Keeble, 92, was flown to University of Tennessee Medical Center following the two-vehicle wreck at 1:41 p.m. near Harmon Road, but died as a result of his injuries.
Keeble was driving a Buick sedan and pulled out from Harmon Road onto East Lamar Alexander Parkway, failing to yield to a Honda sedan driven by 18-year-old Maryville resident Hunter Lyons.
Keeble and a back-seat passenger in his vehicle were both extricated and flown out via Lifestar. Blount County Fire Chief Doug McClanahan said the extrication was complicated and that firefighters had to work on removing the driver-side front and back doors at the same time.
Once they had the driver out, firefighters had to remove the driver seat, as it had pinned the legs of the back seat passenger. A dog that was also riding in the back seat died in the crash.
Lyons was reportedly transported from the scene via Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to an unidentified hospital.
A Maryville woman involved in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning was also airlifted to UT Medical Center following wreck on West Lamar Alexander Parkway. Cinda N. Ward, 19, South Long Hollow Road, was traveling west in a Kia Amanti when the vehicle left the left side of the road and traveled into the median, according to the Maryville Police crash report.
Once inside the median, the vehicle struck a City of Maryville highway sign, crossed both eastbound lanes and struck an embankment near Partnership Park, where the vehicle came to rest at 1:28 a.m. near Partnership Park. Ward, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained incapacitating injuries and was extricated from the vehicle by Maryville firefighters. She was flown to UT Medical Center, where there was no information available on her as a patient.
