VANN, NELLIE GREGORY - 96, of Knoxville, departed this life on May 14, 2008 in Richmond, VA. Preceding her in death was her devoted husband of 51 years, John H. Vann. Nellie was a successful businesswoman, a loving homemaker, a doting grandmother, a good neighbor and a talented and gifted seamstress and maker of ceramics. Throughout her lifetime, she delighted in making beautiful clothing, ceramics and embroidered goods and giving them to friends, family or charitable causes. She is survived by a sister, Eunice G. Heck of Knoxville; an adoring nephew whom she raised as her son, Jack N. Long; a daughter-in-law, Shirley D. Long; three grandchildren and their families, Gregory V. Adams and his wife Margaret and daughter Katie, Scot A. Long and his wife Christine and Karen L. Kalita and her husband John, all of Richmond, VA; a special nephew, Richard Dodson; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Vann and her sons Tommy and Bobby, all of Knoxville; and a niece, Dona Gussow, of Jupiter, FL. The family will receive friends at Highland Memorial Funeral Home from 6 pm to 7 pm on May 28th. A graveside service will be held on May 29th at 11 am at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
