Glenn James Shaver, age 85, of Newport, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Thursday morning, November 20, 2014. Mr. Shaver was retired from BASF after 40 years of service. He was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he serviced as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for many years. Glenn was a veteran of the Korean War and was an avid gardener as long as his health allowed. He was preceded in death by parents, Burnett and Ethel Marshall Shaver; brothers and sisters, Ruble Shaver, Alfred, Shaver, Faye Collins, Aubrey Shaver, Mary Jo Pierce, Sally Butler, Maxine Hummelgard and Georgia Spratt. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Iris June Fox Shaver; daughters and their spouses, Glenda Wheeler (Norman) of Maryville and Denise Kimbrough (Anthony) of White Pine; grandchildren, Courtney Gillette, Caleb Wheeler, Annie Kimbrough and Megan Kimbrough; brother, Everett Shaver of Cleveland, OH; and many nieces and nephews. The family sends a special thanks to the staff of Caris Hospice and Cara Faison for the wonderful care of Glenn. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, November 24, 2014 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Suggs and Jackie Swanger officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday prior to funeral service. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Shady Grove Cemetery. Pall-bearers will be Caleb Wheeler, Jack Spratt, Steve Lewis, Wayne Butler, Roger Butler and Ray Kyker. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
