Newman, Barbara Jean - age 79 of Knoxville passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at her home. She was a 1949 graduate of Central High School where she was the valedictorian. The Newman’s were members of Macedonia United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Glenn Newman; two sons, Jeff (Jamie) and Dennis (Pam) Newman; grandchildren, Nikki (Justin) Soss, Rachel Newman, Lori (Andrew) Middleton, Emily and Megan Black, and Grayson and Jacob Gunter; nieces include, Sue Large and Nancy Hollifield; and nephew, David (Floyd Ann) Gardner. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home on Friday, October 8, 2010, at 6:00 PM with Dr. James Bailes and Rev. Ed Templeton officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 AM on Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Kodak, TN for an 11:00 AM interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 4630 Holston Drive, Knoxville, TN 37914. The family will receive friends 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday at Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 865-523-4999.
