DALTON, FRED EDWARD - age 77, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009. He was born May 19, 1932, in Lone Mountain, Tennessee. He lived in Claiborne and Grainger Counties, Tennessee, before moving to Detroit, Michigan. He was a member of Fairview Avenue Baptist Church, Detroit. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He graduated from Detroit Barber College and was co-owner of Brad's Barber Shop in Taylor, Michigan. After returning to Tennessee, he owned and operated the Imperial Inn, Tazewell, Tennessee, with his wife Joyce. They also owned a cattle farm in Rutledge, Tennessee. He was a beekeeper and completed courses in the University of Tennessee's Beemaster Program. He was a Mason, a member of the Knox County Tennessee Beekeepers Association, a Michigan Beagle Club and American Treeing Feist Association. He learned to play the guitar at an early age and was a lifelong fan of Hank Williams, Sr. He proudly participated in a memorial event with members of Hank's Drifting Cowboys Band commemorating Hank's final ride from Knoxville, Tennessee to Bluefield, West Virginia. He performed regularly on a local radio station and helped for several years with the music program at the Grainger County Tomato Festival. Fred was preceded in death by parents John and Barbara Johnson Dalton, brothers Charles and Leon Dalton and sister Thelma Joy Dalton. Fred is survived by his daughter, Debra Dalton; grandson, Joshua Dalton; former wife, Joyce Dalton all of Knoxville, Tennessee; sisters, Marie Neal of Tazewell, Tennessee, Shirley Lee of Macomb Township, Michigan, Sally Crowell of Belden, Mississippi, Mary Barnes of Chesterfield, Michigan; cousin, Ella Long of Whitesburg, Tennessee; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral service will be 4:00 P.M. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Reverend Steve Foster officiating. Interment will be at Janeway Cemetery, Lone Mountain, Tennessee.
