Creties D. Jenkins, age 91, of Medina, OH, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, at home after a long illness surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 11, 1920 to Mark Jenkins and Sallie Huff in Newport, TN.
He served four years in the Army Field Artillery from 1941-1945 during which time he took part in four invasions and was awarded the Silver Star for "Gallantry in Action."
He retired from LTV Steel in Cleveland, OH after 30 years and became a well-known dairy farmer in the Medina area. Creties was also a 60-year Mason of the Medina Lodge #58 and was a longtime member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Valley City.
He is survived by loving wife of 65 years Marian (nee) (Schade) Jenkins and five sons: Edward (Kathy) of Warren, OH; David (Liana), Thomas (Sandra), and James, all of Medina, OH; and Creties J. (Betty) of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister Mary Vene.
He was preceded by a brother Lloyd and a sister Mildred.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the entrance of Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, OH for the military service on Friday, August 5, 2011, at 9:15 a.m. Rev. Bert Ambrose, Jr. will officiate.
Calling hours will be Thursday, August 4, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City, OH.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of Medina County or Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Valley City would be appreciated.
