Wilson to lead new intermediate school
From Maryville City Schools
John Sevier Elementary School Principal Rick Wilson will become principal of the new intermediate school on Sevierville Road when it opens in 2010, it was announced Monday by Maryville Director of Schools Stephanie Thompson.
"Rick is a perfect fit for this challenge. The relationships he has developed with students, parents and in the John Sevier Elementary School community will give him the head start he needs to successfully open the school and continue the good work he has done at John Sevier Elementary School," Thompson said in a press release.
Wilson has been John Sevier Elementary School's principal since 2003. The school's student achievement scores have risen from all F's to all A's in this four-year period and the students' value-added scores have improved to the exceptional status.
The Tennessee School Boards Association recognized the school in 2007 for a long list of programs that "focus on families," which have been a major emphasis for the school during Wilson's tenure.
"Rick did an excellent job serving as chairperson for the fourth grade task force formed by Dr. Dalton and now serves as co-chair of the planning committee for the new school. While opening a new school is a daunting task, Mr. Wilson has demonstrated his ability to accept challenges and produce outstanding results," Thompson said.
Prior to his post at John Sevier Elementary School, Wilson was principal of West Side Elementary School in Elizabethton. Wilson earned a bachelor of science degree from East Tennessee State University in elementary education and a master of education from Lincoln Memorial University in administration and supervision. He is currently pursuing an educational specialist degree from LMU. Wilson and his wife, Tammie, have two children and live in Alcoa.
