THRESS, CLARENCE EDWIN, SR. - age 83 of North Knoxville, son of the late Clarence John and Helen Sinclair Thress, died suddenly Wednesday February 27, 2008 at his home. He was a member of Washington Pike Baptist Church, the Fisherman's Sunday School Class and Chairman of the Deacon Board. Clarence, who retired as a Captain with the Knoxville Fire Department, was also retired from The State Fire Marshall's Office. He was a past President of the Board of The Fireman's Credit Union and a member of The Knoxville Firefighters Union, where he lobbied for firemen's rights for many years. He was a Navy Air Corps. Veteran of W.W.II. Clarence was also preceded in death by sons, Barry Gene Thress and Clarence E. "Butch" Thress, Jr.; brother, Jack Thress. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 65 years, Norma Kitts Thress; daughter-in-law, Tansi Thress; granddaughter, Deborah Elkins and husband Quint; grandsons, Michael Thress and wife Lisa, Mark Thress; great grandchildren, Corey, Catie and Nathan Thress, Gehrig, Graham and Sophie Elkins; brothers, Fred Thress and wife Carolyn, Tommy Thress and wife Jo, all of Knoxville, Bobby Thress and wife Avonia of Morristown; sister-in-law, Loyce Thress of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. A Masonic service, presented by Masters Lodge #244 F&AM, will be 7:30 P.M Saturday followed by a funeral service at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Barney Evans, Chaplain Paul Trumpore, Chaplain (Ret.) Gibbs Hammond officiating. The family and friends will meet and leave Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel at 1:30 P.M. Sunday and proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for A 2:00 P.M. graveside service with full honors presented by The Knoxville Fire Department Honor Guard. The family requests memorials may be made to: The American Cancer Society, East Region Office, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37909 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1905.
