Services for Lucy Laverne Newcomb, 81, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Northwest Baptist Church with the Rev. T. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery.
Born on June 6, 1926, in Gilpin, Texas, to Aubrey Townsley and Mary Arminta Bennett Bural, she died on Jan. 16, 2008, in Ardmore. She and D.F. Newcomb were married on Oct. 17, 1942, in Marietta. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 29, 1998; her parents; a brother, Frank Bural; and a sister, Marguerite Walker.
She moved to Zaneis as a child and graduated from high school there in 1942. She did clerical work for T&M Pharmacy for 25 years. Lucy was a published poet and enjoyed reading novels. She and her husband loved growing their garden and canning. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, fishing and watching football. Lucy will be remembered for her cooking and hospitality. She was a charter member of Northwest Baptist Church.
Survivors include four children, Aubrey Newcomb and wife, Syd, Aurora, Colo., Brenda Jones and husband, Geoff, Randy Newcomb and wife, Cindy, and Greg Newcomb and wife, Terri, all of Ardmore; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dal Bural, Citrus Heights, Calif.
Bearers will be Jeff Newcomb, Jeremy Jones, Matthew Jones, Darin Newcomb, Shane Newcomb and Jayson Newcomb.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
