Rev. John Edward Russell, 73, of Maryville, TN, after his year long battle with cancer, has gone home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2009 at 9:45 p.m. After announcing his call to preach the Gospel in March 1964, he pastored several churches within Blount, Loudon and Sevier Counties, the last of which was Old Chilhowee Missionary Baptist in Seymour. He was employed at the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge as a machinist for 27 years and retired in 1994. He was an alumni of Walland High School, Class of 1955. John served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958 and served the Lord all of his life. Preceded in death by: Father, James Alfred “Dick” Russell; Mother, Elta Russell; Infant Brother, Joseph. He is survived and will be greatly missed by: Loving Wife of 53 years, Janice Russell; Son & Daughter-in-law, Rick Russell & Sandy Harvey-Russell of Greenback; Daughter & Son-in-law, Gina Russell-Spires & Darin Spires of Lenoir City; Grandchildren, Traci Russell of Greenback, Dustin & Jessica Hart-Spires of Greenback, Josh Russell of Greenback; Sister & Brother-in-law, Eva Lee Russell-Brackin & Bruce Brackin of Greenback; Brother & Sister-in-law, Howard Ray “Hot” Russell & Mary Ellen Dockery-Russell of Maryville; Sisters-in-law, Brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many other beloved relatives and friends. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7, 8. Funeral service will be at 7:30 PM, Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Jack Hitch and Rev. Terry Nelson officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 18, 2009 at Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:30 PM, Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel.
