- [S24] The Newport Plain Talk, (http://www.newportplaintalk.com), 10 Feb 2008.
Mr. Leroy Barnes, 65, of Cosby, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, February 10, 2008, after a ten-year illness. His last two weeks in the hospital was followed by his return to the home to die, even if he only got one night. However, the Lord granted him almost eight nights of peace with such love and help by the one called "one of the youngens," Charlie Grooms. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Vena and Raymond Barnes; a small sister and brother; his sisters, Faye Lauderdale and Dolly Shults; brothers, Ransler, Alfred, Doug, Wade, Shafer, Hillard, Mariston, and J.I.; second parents, Hester and Mack Hall; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He leaves behind to miss him, his wife of almost 45 years, Vivian Hall Barnes; his "baby girl" Glenda Elmore and her son, Buddy Elmore, all of the home; son, Tommy Barnes and his wife, Amy Barnes, of Whitley City, Ky.; former son-in-law, Ronnie Elmore, of Sevierville; sisters, Geneva Payne, of Del Rio, and Genevieve Burns, of Sevierville; two very special brothers-in-law, Richard Payne and Junior Burns; his "like a sisters," Tank Cureton, Iva Lee Rathbone, Aurine Green, and his "first boy," Robert Hall, and their spouses. Additional survivors include his three loving special cousins, Polly Weeks, Deanna Phillips, and Yvonna Black; his dear friend, Becky Brown, who came so many times the past few years to sit and visit with him; and Miranda Webb, who was his "one of a kind buddy." He dearly loved his many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law on both sides of the family and had special bonds with his many nieces, nephews, and their families. He had many friends and things won't be the same on Millertown Road without "KilRoy," as he was known. Funeral services were held at 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2008, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with his nephew, the Rev. Fred Laws, officiating. He will be laid to rest 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2008, beside his parents and other family in the Barnes Family Cemetery, on the hill near his home. Family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, prior to the service, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. Arrangements by Costner-Maloy.
