GOANS, DOROTHY PHILLIPS "MAMMAW D" - age 89 received her new body in Christ on February 8, 2008. She was born on September 24, 1918, in Stainville, TN. Dorothy was the oldest member of Indian Bluff Baptist Church where she attended until her health prevented her from going. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed traveling. Dorothy loved life and was very proud of her family. Visitors to her home were always made to feel welcome and she made sure that they did not leave hungry. When someone new visited, they left feeling like a part of the family. Mammaw D's house was a home filled with love, laughter, food, family, and friends. Many wonderful memories were made in her home and will be cherished by those who feel blessed to have known her. She is preceded in death by husband, Elmer Lee Goans; son, Columbus Goans; parents, Rev. John and Ida B. Phillips; sisters, Ollie Jones, Ada Burchfield, Ola Phillips, Sarah Willie Seiber, and Nancy Phillips; brothers, Dewey Lee Phillips, Johnny Phillips and half-sister and brother Betty and Micky Phillips. Survived by children, Pearl Goans, Briceville, Johnny and Mary Helen Goans, Briceville, Thelma and Jerry Burns, Lake City, Paul and Linda Goans, Ewing, VA, Margie and Bill Seiber, Caryville, Gail and Mike Martin, Caryville, Loretta and Jerry Vineyard, Lenoir City, Steve and Pam Goans, Clinton, Rev. Joe and Debbie Goans, Briceville, and Terry Goans, Briceville; special friend, Charlie Smith; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 10, from 5-8 p.m. at Hatmaker's Funeral Home in Lake City. The funeral will be held on Monday, February 11, at Indian Bluff Baptist Church where the body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Greg Goodman and Rev. Charles Harness officiating. Interment will follow the service in Indian Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Wayne and Wil Burns, Jason C. Goans, Robert Seiber, Jacob Goans, and Jason T. Goans. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons: John Keith Goans, Todd Martin, Chris Martin, Joel Goans, Chip Vineyard, and Cody Harvey. Hatmaker Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
