Arthur Vester Youngblood Sr., 94, of Florida, peacefully passed away Saturday, February 2. He retired from Seaboard Airline Railroad in 1975, having served 34 years as a mechanic. He remained active for two decades with fellow Golden Railroaders Retirement members. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 5, at 2 p.m. at Flat Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Family received friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 4, at Independent Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 105 North Jackson Street, Quincy, FL 32351. A valued member of the Gasden County Community, Vester was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was loved by many and known as Papa or ?Uncle Fud? to friends and family. He was born in 1913 to Arthur Autumn and Anna Youngblood in Waldo, Fla. He served in the Army during World War II. In 1941, he married Alice Louise Marsh who later was director of nursing at Florida State University. Until health issues interfered, he was an active member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. He served as deacon and member of the Brotherhood. He was also involved with the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro and various civic activities. An avid sportsman, his hobbies included fishing, hunting, and tinkering with farm equipment. He also enjoyed attending the sports events of his grandchildren and enjoying the antics of his great-grandchildren. Vester is preceded in death by Louise, his loving wife of 48 years. He is survived by his daughter, Melinda, of New Orleans, and his son, A.V. (wife, Connie), of Greensboro. Vester also has five grandchildren, Alan Hinson, of Arnoldsville, Ga.; Marsh Hinson, of Hazelhurst, Ga.; Michelle Youngblood, of Atlanta, Ga.; Trey Youngblood (wife, Misty), of Newport, Tenn.; and Matthew Youngblood (wife, Dana), of Greensboro; six great-grandchildren, Brandi Evans, Ty and Ellie Beth Youngblood, Matthew, Austin and Layla Rose Youngblood. He also has other loving family. Without doubt, this fine man will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Yet his memory shall remain alive in our hearts and we are comforted by the knowledge that he joins his Maker in Heaven above. The family wishes to thank the employees of Big Bend Hospice and River Chase Nursing Home with other caregivers for their compassionate care and concern for Vester and many acts of kindness.
